The Doumbek or the Goblet Drum is known by many different names including Darbuka, tarbaki, toumperleki, etc is a goblet shaped drum which originated in Egypt and Mesopotamia and is thought to have existed since 1100 BCE.The two main styles are the Egyptian and Turkish style. The instrument is able to play rolls, quick rhythms articulated with the fingertip and is often heard accompanying dancers.
